The Bela Gallery will host “Graven Upon my Palms,” a new painting by Emily Dykes Pugmire. A reception honoring Pugmire will be held at the gallery (272 W. 200 N. Lindon) Friday, May 27, 2010 from 6 to 9 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

The owner and director of the Bela Gallery, Carolyn Mosier said she is “delighted and privileged to be able to unveil the newest painting of artist Emily Dykes Pugmire. The canvas is a touching painting of the Savior Jesus Christ.”

The 30 x 40 oil on canvas painting will be on display through June 30, 2010. Many of Pugmire’s other paintings are also on display at the Bella Gallery.

Pugmire said the painting was inspired by the scripture, Isaiah 49:16 “Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.”

“This painting is a representation of the truth that our Savior will always remember us,” Pugmire said. “The root of the word ‘graven’ is grave—how appropriate that we are graven upon his hands as we are also literally lifted out of the graves of spiritual and physical death.”

Pugmire, a native of St. Louis, MO, earned a bachelor’s of fine arts in illustration from Brigham Young University. She studied drawing and Plein Air painting at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. She has assisted Joseph Brickey with six multi-figural, landscape murals at the Copenhagen, Denmark, Latter-day Saint Temple. She is currently working on a piece for the Art of the Restoration that will be exhibited later this year. See more at www.artoftherestoration.info

Fun at the Gallery

We had a fun time last Saturday with our family art class. Hope you will check our calendar for upcoming events!!

We are now starting regular Classes at the Gallery. We also have our summer camp schedule. If you want accurate information on all of this send an email to belagallery@gmail.com and I will reply with an events list for you as well as a class description. Our children's classes are 4:00 - 5:00 on Mondays and Thursdays and 1:00 pm on Saturdays. They are $10.00 per classes. Please inquire about our family rates and tuition grants. Call 801-443-2656 to reserve your child's place in the class.

We also have a teen/adult watercolor/acrylic class on the 1st and 3 Wednesdays taught by Kris Norman 6:30 - 8:00. Starting on May 25th Rebecca Lee Peery, well known for her African and missionary paintings, will be teaching and Oil Painting class 1st and 4th Tuesdays. Classes will go from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Fees are $50.00 a month for two classes.And then there are our ARTsmART parties. Want to do something different for a family activity, group date, scout or activity day event. Call 801-443-2656.
